Frequently Asked Questions...

I need to know the best way to get pillow cases fresh and clean, free of hair oils....driving me crazy.?

Are there any commercial grade detergents/additives readily available that anyone can recommend to do the job.

I sleep better with the fresh, clean smell also.

There are many good answers here. It looks like your solution may be to try a composite of those answers. Also let me add that if you are especially 'oily' (some people are, others are 'drier') change the cases more frequently, like a couple times a week. And get an 'under-case' for the pillow so the oils won't soak into the pillow filling itself, which will retain the 'smell' and put oils back onto the pillow case from the reverse side (from the heat of your head). Be sure to wash the undercases frequently - once a week or twice a month - depending on your level of oiliness. You can add more pillowcases and undercases a little at a time as your budget allows. Can't have too many in my opinion. Cause life can get too busy sometimes for the regular wash schedule. Try not to let the cases sit a long time before washing, as well.

>>Definitely do NOT do a full load, as someone said, just do a half load with not more than two medium-size bath towels (or one giant bath towel) and the pillowcases in need. When washing pillows throw in two smaller towels or one giant one.
>>At this point you may need to invest in new pillows if the oil's gotten through. You can wash the pillows with the same formula, too, even the down ones, just be sure to dry them completely.
>>Definitely invest in higher thread count pillowcases (you don't have to buy the whole sheet set to buy pillowcases)
>>Combine hydrogen peroxide with a TINY bit of Palmolive or Dawn (if you don't like their scented varieties, use their clear allergy-free degreasers) or Lysol, and then your regular detergent (just a bit less to offset the amount you added of the P

Sounds like alot of details to consider, but once you find the right wash formula and once you find the right wash cycle rythmn, it will be a snap and you will be smelling the fresh and clean scent you want to help you drift off and wake up in a happier more relaxed state of mind.

This Q is not as trivial as some may think. Smelling definitely impacts our subconscious mood set.

[And as to the silly comment about your avatar, well, my understanding is that shaving one's head doesn't stop the production of the oils, the glands are still producing, and even stepped to accomodate the new rate of hair growth - why I'm even speaking to that I don't know - it was just a humorous observation - I must be in a serious mood - think I'll wash my pillowcases right now, for real :) ]

I wish you could let us know how this works out for you and what worked best....

Bravo for the good Q Star for you :)
